Synopsis

When the Australian Open made it’s entrance into the metaverse, I was given the opportunity to create the tournaments first series of NFT collectibles. The collection was inspired by archive footage and memorabilia from the tournaments past, and celebrated the last 50 years of the event through a number of limited items from each decade.

Assets

3D CollectIbles

Aiming to bring an accurate representation of the tournaments history to each collection, we worked with a 3D designer to create a series of umpires seats, racquets, and court surfaces. In addition to these was a new ‘day pass’ design based on the art direction for each decade.

Artwork

Past Tournament Posters

The idea to create the ‘Classics Collections’ was borne from an archive of old posters and tournament footage gathering dust at Tennis Australia. The striking posters from past decades were also the inspiration for the unique art direction of the collection. A selection of these posters was animated and included as bonus digital assets for people who purchased each NFT set.
